Students come to the workshop to use specialist equipment and machinery to have their models made for their assessment. The workshop has an ‘open door’ approach and welcomes all students. As a result, the work is always varying and multidisciplinary. To meet this situation, I have enhanced my skills assisting students to set up their CAD files. This includes ensuring that they are formatted correctly for the specialist programs and the size of the machines. This accounts for a lot of my time as it involves explaining each step and how it fits into the overall process. This helps students understand what is involved and in turn it promotes safety and self-sufficiently. Managing student bookings is also crucial to maximizing access and return from these limited resources at J Block.
