PROTECT DIVERSITY TO SUSTAIN BEAUTY
The concept Diverse Identity stems from my multicultural heritage and my interest in reef protection. Our world is changing rapidly, according to Dr Scott Heron people under the age of 30 have never experienced a normal temperature month. As much as this collection is a message of goodwill, it is a call of action. We cannot ignore the dramatic and possibly irreversible changes that our species has triggered.
Diverse Identity carries a lot of messages in regards to society and the environment, told by my perspective as a highly educated 21 year old Australian with a mixed heritage who has been fortunate to travel around the world. My situation and good fortune is unique, this is the underpinning to the aesthetic of Diverse Identity.
The understanding of the beauty we may lose inspired the vividness and variety of textures in the collection. Every aspect of the collection was carefully considered to evoke beauty through variety and harmony in contrasting elements. The fabrics used in Diverse Identity have been sourced globally, this was required to create a tactile feeling of diversity and to strengthen ideas of beauty in diversity. These fabrics were then manipulated via pattern making and drape exhibiting the contrasting nature of man-made and organic, fluidity is a key underpinning to the collection, every piece was envisage to move as if it was in the ocean.
